It looks like Pro and College football have won the hearts of Austin's flag football community (Go Cowboys!). Registration for Season 3 closed late last night with only 4 teams paid and registered. We had 3 teams on the bubble but they couldn't get it together in time to make our deadline, which was firm. With the holidays this fall, it made scheduling our games tough and left little room for cancellations (lighting, extreme weather). Regretfully, we have to cancel Season 3 for 2010 and push it back to 2011. We are proud to say that we ran the best flag football league in Texas for the past 6 months and plan on doing it again next year.
Have no fear! We're still hear and plan to start this whole process over again in 2011 with Seasons 3, 4 and hopefully 5! Stay in touch with your fellow players on the forums and always keep and eye on ATXFL.COM for the latest news.
All teams that registered for Season 3 will have their league fees refunded in the next 24 hours.
- The Commish
Game 1 featured the #1 seeded Relax against the underdog Beast Mode squad. Plagued by turnovers, Beast Mode gave backup quarterback Hunter Coleman too many chances to drive down the field. In the end, Beast Mode was unable to put a drive together until the second half. By then, the deficit was too much to overcome. Relax wins 23-12 with only 13 players.
Game 2 saw the newcomer Blaze team, who won their division, against one of the deepest teams in the ATXFL- Xtreme. Stacked with talent and a veteran quarterback, Devin Scott at the helm, Xtreme scored early and often. The Xtreme defense was able to hold the highest scoring offense in the league to only 7 points. In the end, Blaze just couldn't match up against Xtreme man-to-man and fell by a score of 26-7.
After a short delay, Relax took the field against Xtreme for the ATXFL Season 2 Championship game. At this point, Relax was considered by many on the sidelines to be the underdog. Missing their regular season quarterback and with all-star wide receivers Joey Thomas and Jay Russell injured, they had an uphill battle. Xtreme came out strong with a quick strike but Relax soon followed with their own. Xtreme held the lead most of the game while Relax struggled to kick extra points. In the end, Xtreme's potent offense just couldn't be stopped and they walked away with the championship 21-12.
Season 2 has come to an end and we thank all of you for participating. Come out and join us for Season 3 as the temperatures start to drop.

Congratulations to Relax, Xtreme, Blaze and Beast Mode for making the playoffs for ATXFL - Season 2. All 4 games tonight held playoff implications and all 4 were exciting to watch. With a Reloaders loss and an Xtreme win, Relax and Xtreme will represent the North. Blaze coasted to the #1 seed in the South while Beast Mode solidified their #2 spot with a win over Blitzed.
We'll see you all on the field next week. Good luck!

If you haven't made it out to a game or seen the video highlights from Season 1, you may not know what contact flag really is. Well, here is a video to show you.
This video demonstrates what exactly "contact flag" means. Most of the time, it's an absolute war between the OL and DL. Not to mention the DBs and WRs go at it to with a 5-yard bump in run just like the NFL. Check out this video to see some of the best OL and DL the ATXFL has showing you how it works, at half speed.
Special thanks to: J. Young, B. Oliver, J. Francis, B. Whitson, M. Nomura, D. Perez and C. Monroe
With one week to play, the playoff picture in each division is STILL pretty blurry.
The North Division has 3 teams at 6-2. Relax holds the head-to-head over Xtreme so if they finish with the same records, Relax will have the upper hand. The Skers are tied with Relax in the head-to-head but hold a commanding lead in the PF area. Xtreme beat the Skers earlier in the year but have to play them in week 10 (Week 7 reschedule) with a very close PF stat. Even after all that it's pretty simple- win and you're in.
The South Division has 1 team that has secured a playoff spot, and that's Blaze. Blitzed and Beast Mode will be playing for a shot at the playoffs. Blitzed beat Beast Mode earlier in the year and needs another win to tie their record. If they do, they will get in based on the second tie breaking stat, and that's PF.
For those of you that don't know how the playoffs work, the top two teams in each division will make it. The first tie breaker for two teams with identical records is the head-to-head. Second, will be the PF (points for). Lastly, we will go to PA (points against) if we have to.
Good luck to all the teams still playing for a shot at the playoffs and the Championship. See you Sunday!

Do you think you have what it takes to be the next Stuart Scott, Scott Van Pelt, or even Chris Berman? If so, we'd like to chat with you.
The ATXFL is looking for someone who would enjoy writing game recaps every week for Season 3. This person would need to attend all 4 games each Sunday and be willing to post game recaps on Sunday night. This person must have a high football IQ and understand game outcomes and how they were reached. Game recaps would require details such as player names, numbers, positions and stats. All this information is available via the ATXFL stat keepers who also attend the games. An ideal candidate will also have Internet access at home and understand how to use a computer. The Game Recap Writer will be granted access to the ATXFL.com website content management system which will provide all the tools necessary to post recaps. Posting notifications to the ATXFL FaceBook and Twitter pages will also be required.
Please note, this is a volunteer position and no compensation will be given. However, we will provide you with an ATXFL Staff T-Shirt upon selection.

You think your fast? Wait until you've seen the guys on the field!
We had two games tonight to determine first place in each division. The first game of the day put Xtreme up against Relax to decide who would be in first place with 2 weeks to go in the North. It was a close game but Relax came away with the win, 12-3. In the South division we saw the all new Beast Mode (formerly Texas Heat) squad come out to try and show Blaze who was tops in the South. Blaze had a different plan and decided to put a hurt'n on ol' Beast Mode to the tune of 21-6. In other news, the Skers keep their playoff hopes alive with a lopsided win over the Reloaders, 28-9. Blitzed blanks White Chocolate 14-0.
Two weeks to go and no clear playoff picture yet in the South. The North is pretty well wrapped up unless Xtreme fails to win another game and the Skers can win out.
